Solutions for Generator Electrical Control Parts Faults

1. When the key is turned to “START” for the manual control genset, the genset does not start and the genset does not start when turn on the start button.

A.Check whether the key switch is working correctly or whether the module start-up port has output;

B.Check whether there is any fault indication, repair the fault if necessary, and reset the corresponding fault information;

C.Check the battery voltage. If the voltage is too low, you need to recharge the battery to full. If the voltage value is normal, you should gradually check whether the voltage signal is correctly sent to all control links according to the drawing, such as throttle solenoid valve and starter motor etc;

D.Check if the emergency stop button has been relaxed;

E.Check whether the start relay good.

2. Start motor, it can work, but diesel generator can not drive.

A.Check the fuel level and make sure the tubing is properly connected;

B.For the mechanical speed control system generator set, check whether the throttle solenoid valve is properly sucked;

C.For the electronic speed control system diesel generator, check whether the EPG power supply is properly connected and the voltage is normal;

D.For the electronic speed control system genset, when the starter motor is running, use the electric meter to measure whether the MPU has the correct AC voltage signal;

E.Check whether the genset speed has reached or exceeded the set start normal speed;

F.Check whether the fuel delivery system is blocked;

G.Check whether the air filter is blocked;

F. In cold areas, should ensure electric generator is warmed up before starting.

3. High water temperature fault alarm or shutdown.

A. Check whether genset is overload;

B. Check the tightness of the fan belt;

C. After the diesel genset is completely cooled, check if the water level of the cooling water is sufficient;

D. Check whether the water temperature sensor is damaged;

E. Check whether the water temperature sensor switch alarm is correct;

F. Check if the thermostat valve opens correctly;

G. Check that the gap between the pump and the water tank is correct;

H.Confirm that the temperature in the equipment room is not higher than 40 °C.

4. Low oil pressure fault alarm or shutdown

A.Check the oil level;

B.Check oil quality and viscosity;

C.Check the oil temperature;

D.Check whether the oil pressure sensor is damaged;

E.Check whether the oil filter and oil circuit are blocked;

F.Check whether the oil pressure sensor switch alarm is correct.

5. Overspeed fault causes shutdown

A.Check the speed meter to indicate if there is any abnormality;

B.For mechanical speed control mechanisms, check the throttle lever for flexibility and ensure proper adjustment;

C.For the electronic speed control system, check if the throttle lever is flexible and check whether the actuator is operating correctly;

D. Recalibrate and adjust the overspeed protection limit;

E.Check if the speed sensor installation is reasonable;

F.Reset the alarm signal on the control panel after troubleshooting.

6. High voltage alarm

A.Measure the actual value of the unit's output voltage;

B.Confirm that the meter is not biased;

C.If the voltage is actually too high, you can check and re-adjust the AVR according to the steps.;

D.Confirm that the load property is non-capacitive and the power factor is not advanced;

E.Confirm that genset generator speed and frequency is normal;

F.If the real value of the voltage is normal, check whether the circuit part of the voltage display is correct;

G.Check whether the setting limit of the high voltage alarm is correct and reasonable.

7. Low voltage alarm

A.Measure the actual value of the unit's output voltage;

B.Confirm that the meter is not biased;

C.If the voltage is actually low, you can check and re-adjust the AVR according to the steps;

D.Confirm generator set speed and frequency is normal;

E.If voltage value is normal, check whether the circuit part of the voltage display correct;

F.Focus on checking whether the three fuses on the rear wall of the generator terminal box are normal and connected firmly;

G.Confirm that there is no large deviation in the three-phase voltage value;

H.Confirm that there is no phase loss;

I.Confirm that when the alarm occurs, the load changes little;

J.Confirm that the generator set is not overloaded;

K.Check whether the setting limit of the voltage high and low alarm is correct and reasonable.

8. Diesel generator can not be loaded

A.Check whether voltage is normal;

B.Check the nature of the load to confirm that there is no overload and power factor lead;

C.Confirm whether the switch is closed and the settings are correct and reasonable;

D.For users who have ATS, should focus on checking ATS and related parts;

E.Check all wiring of ATS control conversion and make sure it is correct;

F.Confirm ATS control switch is not in the "MAINS" position;

G.When ATS control switch is in the "AUTO" position, confirm that the connected mains has no normal voltage;

H.Confirm diesel generator set power is correctly introduced into the genset end of the ATS;

I.Confirm that the main AC contactor of ATS is flexible and has no jam.

Hope this article can help you to solve the faults of electrical control parts of diesel generator set.
